Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination means the difference between male and female in respect of enjoying human right. It begins at birth in Bangladesh. It is severe here. Female children, girls and women are the worst sufferers. There are many reasons of this social curse. Parents think that girls are not suitable for many jobs. Moreover, in the existing socio-economic setup female children are not suitable for outdoor activities and earnings. Women are regarded as a liability to their parents. Religious misinterpretation , social customs and lack of education are also responsible for this. But because of this discrimination the nation is getting deprived of the services of the half of its population who are women. This hinders national development. This problem cannot be solved overnight. To solve this problem, we all should come forward and try heartily.

Gender discrimination is the difference between male and female in respect of enjoying rights. It is a great social problem in Bangladesh. Female children are the worst sufferers of this and it is very much shocking that it beings at birth. There are many causes behind it. Social prejudices and customs tend our male dominated society to degraded women’s position. Religious misinterpretation and social structures also contribute to it. Besides, the parents think that the male can contribute more to the family. So, from the very early stage, parents take more care in all respect for the male children. The consequences of gender discrimination is very harmful. The female develop a mental complexity of being inferior. They can not think that they are perfect human beings. On the other hand, female education is greatly hamper and the female population fall a serious victim to our evil dowry system. However, this problem cannot be solved overnight. For this our outlook towards the girls should be changed. It should be well established that women are equal partners to men. Proper education should be ensured for both male and female child. Above all, we will be able to come out of this social curse only when we will realize the fact properly that women are not merely women, rather they are human beings.

Social prejudices, customs, religious misinterpretation and social structure are main cases of gender discrimination. Parents consider female children as burden and try to get rid of them as early as possible. They think that the male can contribute more to the family. So, they taka care in all respect for the male children. The effects of gender discrimination are many. It has some long-term negative effects on the body and mind of the girls and women in family. They can not think that they are perfect human beings. Because of this thinking, they suffer from malnutrition and maltreatment. On the other hand, female education is greatly hampered too. However, this problem can be solved by creating awareness among the people. Illiteracy, ignorance and superstition should be removed from the society. Only thus, this problem can be solved.

 Gender discrimination means discriminatory behavior with male and female on the basis of their gender identity. Gender discrimination ensure from the bad idea of distributing rights unequally between male and female. Unfortunately the female children are the worst victims gender discrimination in every country in the world . It is more unfortunate that gender discrimination begins at the very birth of a female child. This discriminatory treatment towards female sex continues the whole life. Social prejudices, age old customs and religious misinterpretation etc. are the major causes of gender discrimination. Our male dominated social structure also contributes to this problem. In our socio-economic frame it is thought that male children are best suited to earn for family. So, from the very early age parents take more care the male child and female ones remain in a degraded position. Gender discrimination is undoubtedly harmful to female gender. It causes their health hazards, mental distress and even in some cases premature death. Being deprived of proper health care and nutrition they become vulnerable to various diseases. Being subjected to domination they begin to think themselves to be defective human beings. As a result, they suffer from inferiority complexities. They are considered to born only to become wife of a husband and mother of some children. To solve this problem we should change the outlook towards girls. It should be accepted that women are equal partners to men. Proper education and nutrition should be ensured to female children. For a better future of humankind we must get rid of gender discrimination.
